The second is that the code itself feels like the answer, so the context feels redundant.
It is not redundant, and the gap it fills is the one most people actually have. A code tells you which circuit or system the car was unhappy about. - Note which code it belongs to. If several codes are stored, the snapshot usually belongs to one of them, and on many vehicles that is the first one to have set rather than the most recent.
- Save or photograph the whole screen before doing anything else. Freeze frame is not something you can go back for once it has been cleared.
- Read the parameters in the same way you would read live data, which is to say in combination rather than one at a time. What it can tell you, and what it cannot
What it genuinely tells you is when. Was the engine cold or fully warmed? Stationary or moving? Light throttle or heavy load? It also gives you something to compare against later. If you make a change and the fault returns, a second snapshot taken under noticeably different conditions is more informative than the code number repeating.
