What we collect, and when
Comments
If you leave a comment, we collect the data you enter in the comment form (name, email address, website if given, and the comment itself), plus your IP address and browser user-agent string to help with spam detection. An anonymised hash of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you use it; the Gravatar privacy policy is at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval, your comment and profile picture are visible publicly alongside it.
Cookies
- Comment cookies: if you comment, you can opt in to cookies that save your name, email, and website so you don’t retype them. They last about one year.
- Consent cookies: this site uses a cookie-consent banner (CookieAdmin) that stores your cookie preferences. Necessary cookies for this purpose are always active; you can review or change your choices through the banner’s settings at any time.
- No analytics or advertising cookies: as of July 2026, this site runs no analytics, advertising, or social-media tracking scripts. If that changes, this policy and the consent banner will be updated first.
Embedded content
Articles may embed content from other websites (for example, YouTube or Facebook videos). Embedded content behaves as if you visited that website directly: it may collect data about you, use its own cookies, and track your interaction with it, especially if you are logged in to that site.
Server logs
Like almost every website, the server hosting this site keeps standard technical logs (such as IP addresses and requested pages) for security and troubleshooting. These are managed by our hosting provider.
What we do NOT collect
We have no user accounts for visitors, no newsletter, no contact forms storing data, and we do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.
How long data is kept
Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so follow-up comments can be recognised and approved automatically. Consent-cookie preferences persist until they expire or you clear them.
